About Axel

Axel is a Swedish classical guitarist living in London, currently working as a guitar performer, composer and teacher. Axel completed his studies in 2022 and has a master's degree in classical guitar performance from the Royal College of Music.

Previously Axel studied classical guitar performance for Göran Söllscher, Gunnar Spjuth and David Hansson at the Malmö Academy of Music. In 2018, an Erasmus exchange gave Axel the opportunity to study classical guitar for one semester in Córdoba, Spain at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Córdoba.

Axel was one of 4 finalists in the Jörgen Rörby competition 2020. The finals were held in the summer 2021 in Stockholm, Sweden. He has performed extensively throughout Europe, including concerts in Copenhagen, London, Malmö, and Córdoba. During the last couple of years Axel has participated in masterclasses with renowned classical guitarists including Marcin Dylla, Zoran Dukic, Alvaro Pierri, John Mills, Laura Snowden and Mats Bergström.

As a composer, Axel has written over 40 works for the classical guitar. He also regularly performs his own compositions in his guitar recitals.

His studies were supported by the Helge Ax:son Johnssons Foundation, Makarna Lindeqvists Donation, Rune Ljungdahls Foundation, Crafoordska Foundation, Therese Kamphs Foundation, Stallfåglarnas Foundation, Thora Ohlssons Foundation and Kempe-Carlgrenska Foundation.

Axel performs on a spruce guitar made by Stephen Hill and a cedar guitar made by Antonio Bernal. His equipment includes the Abel Armrest, Savarez strings and a Bam case.
